Fourth Stop: Sharon/Woodstock, Vermont

***********************

Our fourth stop was a cozy Airbnb in Sharon, Vermont, tucked away in the New England countryside. We stayed in a charming old farmhouse that was part of a duplex, giving us both privacy and a friendly vibe. The farmhouse had creaky wooden floors, vintage furniture, and lots of bright natural light. The owners lived nearby and were super welcoming, sharing stories about the area. They ran a working farm, showing off sustainable living with all sorts of animals and crops.

The next day, we headed to Woodstock, Vermont, just in time for the lively annual Wassail Festival. It was packed with people, so finding parking was a bit tricky, but we eventually snagged a spot close to all the action. Downtown Woodstock was buzzing, with cute shops and inviting restaurants showcasing local artisans and tasty treats. We had a great time browsing and picking up some souvenirs along the way.

After a fun shopping trip, we got back to our parking spot and noticed a festival happening right across the street on a grassy area surrounded by old buildings. The festival was buzzing with vendors selling handmade crafts and seasonal foods, and the smell of hot cocoa and baked goodies filled the air. People were hanging out, sipping warm drinks, and there was a stack of logs ready to be lit as the "Yule log" after the parade, symbolizing warmth and community spirit. We lucked out because the parade route went right by where we parked, so we got to enjoy the festivities up close. The parade had beautiful horses, fancy carriages, and riders in festive outfits, with Santa Claus waving to the crowd and spreading holiday cheer.

The next morning, the farm owners let us jump into the daily chores, giving us a real taste of farm life. As the sun came up, we gathered eggs from the chickens, eagerly picking them from under the hens and learning about the different breeds and their egg-laying roles. Later, we watched the cleaning and packaging process, where the eggs were washed, sorted by size, and packed for the local market, highlighting how crucial hygiene and care are for keeping the produce top-notch.

************************

************************

As we wandered around the farm, we stumbled upon some sheep chilling in the fields with a couple of big herding dogs. These dogs were crucial for keeping the flock in line, showing off their smarts and training as they expertly guided the sheep. It was pretty cool to see them obeying their handler's commands, highlighting the awesome teamwork between people, animals, and the land that makes farm life what it is.

After having a blast at the farm, we hit up a local children's museum that was buzzing with excitement. The place was packed with interactive exhibits on science, art, and exploration, all designed to get kids curious and creative.

As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by colorful displays that begged us to dive into some hands-on fun. We got to play around with physics through cool demos and even launched tiny rockets while chatting about aerodynamics and gravity.

We stumbled upon an electricity exhibit where we made circuits to light up bulbs and power gadgets, making science feel fun and easy.

Every exhibit pushed us to be curious and love learning. The biology displays let us dive into life cycles and ecosystems, touching real fossils and interacting with digital worlds.

The museum visit was both educational and fun, a nice switch-up from our farm adventures, and it showed us how nature and science are connected. We left with a new appreciation for both, totally inspired by all the creativity and innovation we saw. It was a day full of laughs and learning that we'll remember for a long time.

On our way back home, we decided to take a little detour and stumbled upon an awesome surprise. Cruising along those winding roads, we soaked in the stunning view of the bright autumn colors—orange, red, and yellow leaves everywhere. The fresh air was filled with the scent of pine and earth, totally refreshing our senses. We ended up at this cute strip mall, and right next to it was an unexpected alpaca farm, making the whole place feel like something out of a storybook.

************************

************************

When we got closer, the cute buildings with their colorful signs hinted at a one-of-a-kind shopping adventure. Walking into the first shop, it was like stepping into a lively flea market, packed with handmade crafts, vintage treasures, and quirky home decor, each piece with its own tale to tell.

************************

************************

The second store we checked out had that classic general store vibe, packed with all sorts of everyday stuff and local goodies. It felt like a blast from the past with its wooden counters and a mix of things for both locals and tourists. The smell of freshly baked treats drew us to a display of homemade jams and jellies, each jar looking colorful and tasty. We grabbed a few snacks to fill our pantry and remind us of this awesome day.

There were vibrant displays showing off local artists' work, with cool items like beeswax products and maple mustard. We stumbled upon some delicious Cabot Vermont cheese, famous for its rich taste and creamy texture, with samples of artisanal cheeses tempting us to try even more. We also picked up a bottle of pure Vermont maple syrup, perfect for making breakfasts sweeter and bringing back memories of cozy mornings with family and pancakes.

We hit up this awesome candy shop that was a dream come true for anyone with a sweet tooth. The walls were packed with colorful jars filled with goodies like gummy bears and chocolate-covered pretzels. With our three kids along for the ride, we let them pick out some treats, and their excitement was totally contagious. We also snagged some Christmas gifts, making the day even more special.

After that, we checked out an alpaca farm, which was both a blast and a learning experience. The alpacas were adorable with their soft coats and chill vibe. Our favorite was Riley, this super friendly white alpaca who came right up to us, all curious. We loved petting her, and the kids had a blast feeding her treats, totally amazed by her fluffy fleece.

************************

************************

Our outing was unforgettable, giving us a chance to connect with nature and some adorable alpacas in the most relaxing way. When we got close to the alpacas, their cute faces and fluffy coats totally won us over. We learned about how they’re cared for, with a diet of top-notch hay, fresh grasses, and special pellets. The caretakers told us how calm and social they are, which makes them awesome companions. Feeding them treats was a blast as they nuzzled our hands. The whole experience taught us about sustainable farming practices like rotational grazing and organic farming. We left feeling happy and loaded up with goodies from the candy shop.

On our way to dinner, we stumbled upon a charming covered bridge with a rustic vibe. Made of weathered wood, it stretched over a sparkling stream. Inside was a closed shop, and we could see shelves through the windows filled with handmade crafts and local treats. Even though it was closed, the bridge’s cozy atmosphere and the lush surroundings made everything feel so peaceful. The bridge, with its quaint charm, left us excited to come back when the shop might be open so we can soak in all its magic.

Fifth Stop: Jackson/White Mountain, New Hampshire

Pit Stop: Saint-Gaidens National Historic Site

The next morning, we kicked off our much-anticipated trip to New Hampshire, with Jackson as our first stop. We were in for some amazing views and memorable experiences. As we cruised along the winding roads, we were in awe of the changing scenery, from lush greenery to the peaks of the White Mountains, our final destination. We eventually pulled up at The Christmas Farm Inn, a cozy place known for its friendly atmosphere and beautiful surroundings.

Before reaching the Inn, we had a fun detour at the Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site, dedicated to the sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Surrounded by well-kept gardens and impressive sculptures, we soaked in a peaceful and enriching experience that deepened our appreciation for art and history.

Visiting National Sites comes with the cool activity of collecting stamps in a special passport. At Saint-Gaudens, we found a shop selling these passports, and I grabbed one for each of my kids. These books, packed with info about various historic sites, are both keepsakes and educational tools. Our mission is to visit as many sites as we can, collecting stamps and sparking curiosity about the rich history around us.

************************

************************

While wandering around the huge grounds, we really got to enjoy the beauty and how everything in nature is linked together. The neat gardens had sculptures and art that showed off the cool blend of art and nature. The sound of rustling leaves and birds singing made us feel even more connected as we strolled along the paths, taking in all the sights and sounds.

************************

************************

We checked out the museum at the historic site and got a real feel for Saint-Gaudens' life, how he created his art, and his impact on American sculpture. The exhibits showed off his famous works and the stories behind them, giving us a peek into his genius and the times he lived in. It made our visit way more interesting and helped us connect with the art on a deeper level.

Surrounded by art, nature, and history, our day at Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site was unforgettable. It boosted our appreciation for beauty and how it ties into the natural world, all while celebrating the legacy of an amazing artist.

Next Stop: Christmas Farm Inn

As we got closer to the inn, I was totally taken in by its cute look. The twinkling lights danced in the evening breeze against the darkening sky, and the snow-covered trees glittered like diamonds in the moonlight, making it feel like a holiday postcard come to life. It was such a magical and cozy vibe, just what we needed to break away from our usual routine. I was super excited to find out there's an indoor pool—perfect for the kids to splash around in after our long drive. I could already picture their joyful squeals!

Checking in was a breeze, and the super friendly staff made us feel right at home. Our cottage had a cute, charming vibe with a rustic feel, though it wasn't as fancy as some of the other places around. At first, it felt cozy and inviting, but a few problems popped up that kind of put a damper on things.

One big problem was the broken bed my kids had to sleep on. At first, it seemed okay, but on the second night, we heard this weird creak. Luckily, no one got hurt, but the kids didn't sleep well. It's surprising that housekeeping didn't catch this while changing the sheets—it should've been fixed before we got there. Finding such an issue was a letdown, especially since we paid extra for what we thought would be an amazing experience.

************************

***********************

************************

Even though the cottage had its issues, I was set on not letting it mess up our much-awaited vacation. We chose to roll with it, reminding ourselves it was just a couple of nights and we could still make awesome memories. While we got dinner ready, the kids had a blast at the playground, which was a great distraction and let us chill out and focus on the good stuff.

************************

************************

The inn had two spots to grab a bite: a fancy restaurant and a chill bar area. But, we couldn't eat at either because we needed reservations and the wait times were crazy long, which caught us off guard since we didn't know about the reservation policy. Even though we were bummed at first, it ended up being a blessing in disguise.

That night, we headed into Jackson to find somewhere to eat. After facing long waits at a few places, we stumbled upon a cozy, cabin-like restaurant. The warm vibe and quick seating by a toasty stone fireplace were just what we needed on a cold night. The food was amazing, and we loved it so much that we went back the next night. This turned into a highlight of our trip, proving that unexpected changes can lead to the best memories.

***********************

************************

On our first night heading to dinner, we were super excited to spot a beautiful covered bridge that made the scenery even better. Our excitement only grew when we came across another bridge all lit up for the holidays, making the walk back to the inn feel magical. This enchanting moment was the perfect end to a day full of ups and downs. Even with some initial bumps, the trip was turning into an unforgettable family adventure, packed with laughter, warmth, and new memories.

As the train climbed up the mountain, the excitement was in the air, and the scenery went from everyday to absolutely stunning.

On our train ride, we had this amazing conductor who really knew his stuff. He was an older guy, super passionate about the Cog railway, and he filled our trip with awesome stories and cool historical facts. He talked about how the railway got started, the tough times they had building it, and all the challenges like rough terrain and bad weather. His stories really brought the railway's history to life, making us appreciate both the stunning views and the cleverness behind this transportation marvel. We were totally hooked on his tales, which gave us a deeper understanding of the mountain and why it's so important.

The mix of gorgeous scenery, warm drinks, and engaging stories made the experience unforgettable. Every moment on the train was all about the joy of exploring and the wonders of nature. Washington Cog Mountain offered breathtaking views and a rich history, making us feel lucky to experience it in such a unique way. The day wasn’t just about getting to a destination; it was about the journey, the connections we made, and the memories we created as we explored this amazing slice of nature.

The train's gentle rhythm chilled us out, and the cool evening air was super refreshing. Our cozy home promised a relaxing night ahead. We soaked in the calm evening, listening to the leaves rustling and crickets chirping in the distance. As the sun went down, we eased into our usual routine, thinking about the busy day we had ahead. Feeling grateful for these peaceful moments, we drifted off to sleep, ready for more adventures the next day.

Sixth Stop: New Haven, Connecticut

***********************

We're on our last stop before heading home, and this trip has been packed with adventures. I didn't know anything about New Haven before, but it turned out to be full of surprises. Our Airbnb was in a cute neighborhood with tree-lined streets and old buildings. The house was a three-story gem with a cozy basement that had a ping pong table and a laundry area, complete with a quirky laundry chute. Inside, it mixed modern comforts with classic charm, featuring wooden beams and vintage fixtures. We whipped up dinner in the well-equipped kitchen, enjoying the cozy vibe and just chilling out.

The next day, we checked out downtown New Haven, which is known for its rich culture and history. The contrast between the bustling downtown and the visible poverty near Yale University was eye-opening, showing the mix of wealth and hardship in city life.

This spot was buzzing with ideas and learning was the main focus, turning our trip into a real mental adventure. Our curiosity about the world kicked in as we walked by the famous Sterling Memorial Library, with its eye-catching Gothic style grabbing our attention. They dashed over to the playground, with my husband jumping in for a fun game of tag. The playground, with its bright slides and swings, was full of laughter and excitement. Watching them, I felt so happy, soaking in these special moments together. As the sun dipped lower, casting a warm glow, we rounded up the tired kids and headed home, thankful for the simple joy of being together.

The next day, we started our trip back home, thinking about all the fun we had. The morning sun made the room feel warm and cozy as we packed, each item reminding us of our memories. I was so glad my friend stayed a few extra days, giving us time to chill after our adventures. We got into a groove of cooking, swapping stories, and laughing over our inside jokes. We loved strolling through the park, with the autumn leaves making our chats even better. Every moment felt special as we looked back on our trip. Our evenings were spent watching movies or new shows, enjoying the comfort of friendship. These moments made our bond stronger, showing how important it is to have someone who really gets you. Even though saying goodbye was coming up, we focused on the now, making memories that would last.

If I had to pick the ultimate Christmas town, it’d be Kennebunkport, Maine. This cute coastal town turns into a winter wonderland during the holidays. The streets are decked out with twinkling lights, and the historic buildings are all dressed up. The smell of baked goodies fills the air, tempting you to check out the shops and boutiques.

Dock Square is the heart of Kennebunkport’s holiday vibe, with a beautifully decorated Christmas tree that brings people together. The town is buzzing with joy, hosting fun events like parades, tree lightings, and caroling, creating a real sense of community.

Kennebunkport's rich history adds to its charm, with colonial architecture and maritime heritage providing a stunning holiday backdrop. A walk along the waterfront shows snow-covered boats in the harbor, creating a magical scene. Cozy inns and B&Bs offer warm stays, complete with fireplaces and holiday decor. After exploring, enjoy some hot cocoa or mulled wine while soaking in the peaceful winter landscape.

Overall, Kennebunkport captures the essence of a classic Christmas town, offering beautiful scenery, festive events, and a warm welcome, truly embodying the magic of Christmas.
