Social Media Sucks!

I started my website a few months back. The only way I know how to advertise it is through social media. Of course, that’s way easier said than done.

Why?

Social media sites ban people for the silliest reasons all the time. I actually got banned from Substack just for sharing an article I wrote in someone’s comment section. And yet, I still get stuff like this.

And here are his other wonderful comments.

Isn’t it lovely the things Substack allows?

Now, I’ll show you what I got banned for.

THIS is what I got BANNED indefinitely for.

That HORRIBLE comment!

I had meant to say is, “I DO read people’s posts and articles AND leave comments”

So, when I went to fix that mistake, I discovered I was banned from Substack. As soon as I tried to submit my edited post, I got the lovely message saying I’m banned. And I don’t mean just restricted from a few things—completely banned. All I can do is read other people’s stuff. I can’t even message my subscribers and followers to let them know I’m still around, just banned. Nothing! Was it because of that post?

Yet, perverted jerks get to post all their nasty stuff, and nothing gets done about it.

They’re All the Same

********************

I've reported sex videos and nude pics on Facebook a ton of times, but they always say there's nothing wrong with them. Meanwhile, I get restricted for sharing TOO MUCH POSITIVITY!!!!

Mind-blowing, right?

How did humans get so far off that saying hateful things and sending people unwanted sexual contact is OK?

That totally freaks me out. Our kids are on social media whether we want them to be or not. No matter how hard we try, we can't stop it unless we keep them locked up at home with no way to reach the outside world. And that's basically holding someone hostage, which is illegal. But it seems like most people don't really care about what's legal these days; they just do whatever they want.

If there's one thing that's gonna rip this world apart, it's social media, the news, basically anything you find online.

It's making us less human since people can just hide behind screens these days. Plus, it's messing with our thinking because computers handle that for us now.

People are getting super lazy because of technology. My teenage daughter asked me something the other day, and I was like, "You've got your phone right there, why not just look it up?" It would literally take two seconds. And you know what she said? "Why would I do that when you can just tell me?" That's how most kids and teens think these days. Why bother thinking when someone else, or ChatGPT, can do it for me?

Is that really how we want our future kids to think? Can you honestly not picture what life will be like when tech is running everything because people can't think for themselves? I just hope I'm wrong. I really hope we don't come back in another life. I'd rather go to hell than live in a world where technology controls everything.

What Do We Do?

********************

How can we change this? How can we stop this from happening?

No one's going to quit social media on their own, that's for sure. And they're definitely not going to just take it away. So, what can we do to prevent this?

The only reason I'm still on social media is that it's the best way to get my message out there. Seriously, there's no other option. Everyone's on social media all the time. How else can I quickly spread love and positivity?

But then I keep running into these issues. It's super easy to get banned or put in "time out" for a few days over the tiniest things. Seriously, just check Facebook and you'll see tons of posts about people being in Facebook jail, again. I got restricted for two weeks just because I accidentally posted some gibberish on someone's page. I was about to post something else, got distracted, hit a few buttons, and accidentally sent it. Bam 💥, two-week restriction, and there was nothing I could do to fix it. Everyone knows how easy it is to do that. Come on, we’ve all dealt with butt dialing.

I spent months paying for Meta's services, but they never helped me out with any of my issues. I had to open a new support ticket five times for the same problem because they kept closing it without fixing anything. And the kicker? I was paying for help that I never received!

I've never been much into YouTube or TikTok. I've had Instagram, but never really used it much. As for LinkedIn, I don’t think I’ve ever had an account there. Facebook was my go-to for years and years. Those were the only options I knew about.

A couple of weeks ago, a friend mentioned Substack to me, and I got super excited! I thought it was a cool space for writers, and where there are writers, there are usually readers too. But often, people hop onto a site like Substack just hoping others will read their stuff without even checking out anyone else's work. Who really has the time to read other people's writings, let alone drop a comment? That takes even more time. But I jumped on there to share my writings and see what others were saying. Many of my subscribers/followers will tell you that we’ve had some awesome conversations because I take the time to read and comment on THEIR work. I love doing that. Before I got into writing, I was a big reader. I've been reading for as long as I can remember. Writing came a bit later for me.

So, it’d be pretty hypocritical of me to ask for support and not give it back. Just because most people might do that doesn’t mean I’m like them. I do share my work and check out others’ stuff too. But if I can’t share my work, what’s the point? I’ll keep reading people’s posts and maybe jot down my comments in a notepad until I’m no longer banned from Substack. If it comes to that, I guess I could start another one to share my work, but I really shouldn’t have to. I’ve worked hard on this one, put out a lot of writing, and connected with tons of people. Why should I have to start from scratch over something so silly?

Please, guys, we need to wake up and see what is happening here before it’s too late. ⏰
