Obsessive Problem solving

When you have an obsessive mind, ( like I have ) your brain is ALWAYS presenting you with problems to solve. You see a familiar face on TV and you have forgotten their name, so you pull your phone out to google it?
This Really Pisses my wife off tremendously, she says: why can’t you just settle and watch the damn program?
But my brain NEEDS to find out their name so I CAN settle, but I don’t settle even when I find out their name, because my obsessive mind WILL present me with YET another problem further down the line.
The MORE you fall into this trap of problem solving, the MORE your brain presents you with MORE PROBLEMS TO SOLVE.
It is a vicious cycle that only you can break.
So how do you break this everlasting cycle?
This is where you bring the practice of ACCEPTANCE into the scene.
You Accept that you don’t know. You give yourself permission TO NOT KNOW. You become settled in NOT KNOWING. But your brain then, starts to fight this, because it is alien to you, because it is programmed into finding out, your brain won’t let you get away from not knowing. It gets all agitated and restless, until you ‘give in’ and reach for your phone.
OCD IS LIKE A GIGANTIC MAGNET THAT PULLS YOU TOWARDS FINDING OUT!
When this happens your OCD has won the battle. This compulsive behaviour only reinforces OCD and makes it STRONGER and OCD then as a firmer grip on you, then the feeling of failure comes into the equation, and you start to beat yourself up for letting OCD win the battle.
But it is NOT a battle ONLY YOU ARE MAKING IT A BATTLE.
This is what Practicing Acceptance is ALL about! Even if you fail, you ACCEPT EVEN THIS.
You can never fail if you practice Acceptance, because the Acceptance of not Accepting can only RIGHT ITSELF.
Acceptance wins every single time. You cannot lose with Acceptance, it always ACCEPTS ITSELF. You just need to be Aware of it at ALL TIMES.
So to win the none excisting battle, that never was a battle in the first place. It becomes very easy indeed.
You eventually, if you carry on practicing Acceptance, you Accept that you don’t know everything and you will NEVER ‘WILL’ KNOW EVERYTHING.
So next time you see a familiar face on TV and you don’t know their name, you leave your phone in your pocket and carry on being happy that you don’t know their name and ACCEPT YOU DON’T KNOW THEIR NAME. Then continue watching the program that will ONLY please your wife.
To recover from any ‘ANXIETY STATE’ whether it be. (OCD) (GAD) (PD) (MDD) or (VEBs) is exactly the same. Acceptance is your answer.
The only problem is; Acceptance practice treatment doesn’t happen over night. It takes as long as your brain needs to adjust to your newfound way of thinking and changed Mindset.
This is where an awful lot of people ‘fall by the wayside’ because they have already wasted too-much time waiting for a CURE that WILL NEVER COME.
They never reach their GOAL because they give up before ACCEPTANCE has a chance to heal.
Let me tell you NOW there IS NO CURE for OCD. There is only coping strategies that can IMPROVE YOUR CONDITION. Coping Strategies that you can require over a period of time, if you can ONLY be patient and let THE PRACTICE OF ACCEPTANCE WORK ITS MAGIC.
