My Daughter's Story

Why so serious all the time? I don't know either!

I figured I'd throw in something a little cute and fun. Just to switch things up a bit.

I homeschool my 9-year-old, and I am trying to teach her to become a writer, like her mom. I had her do an outline in the previous lesson. This is the story she came up with using that outline, along with my feedback. What do you think? Personally, I'd say she has a long way to go, but we'll get there.

Lost Kitty

Sophia was at the park in her neighborhood.

She was playing with her toy cat.

The next thing she knew it wasn't there.

Sophia went to the park in her neighborhood to play with her friend, Ella. She brought her toy cat with her, so they had something to play with. They played all over the park and ended up at the trampoline. They saw some friends from school and went over to talk to them. After a little while of talking, Sophia realized she couldn't find her cat.

First, she was at the blue slide.

It wasn't on, or under it.

It wasn't even around it.

She started panicking and thought back to all the places they went to while at the park. The first place they went was the blue twisty slide. She walked over to it and climbed to the top, but she didn't see it up there. So, she slid back down and looked underneath the slide; she still didn't see it.

Second, she went to the pink swing.

It wasn't on, or under it.

It wasn't even around it.

Hmmm, she thought again about the next place they went to, the pink swings. When she went over there to look, she found Ella swinging on one of the swings. She asked Sophia what she was doing, and she told her she was looking for her stuffed cat and asked if she remembered where it was. They knew it wasn't at the swings because they could see that. Ella offered to help find it.

Third, she was at the purple jungle gym.

It wasn't on, or under it.

It wasn't even around it.

Sophia hopped on the swing next to Ella and started pumping her legs. They both thought for a few seconds about where they went after the swings. Ella finally shouted, "The purple jungle gym! We were pretending your cat was in the circus and was doing all kinds of flips off the jungle gym." They walked to the jungle gym and climbed to the top but didn't see it. They looked inside and all around it and still didn't see it.

Last, she was at the black trampoline.

It wasn't on it, but it was under it!!!

she was happy again.

"Well, drats!" Ella said, "Where did we go next?" They both thought for a few seconds. At the same time, they yelled, "The black trampoline!" and off they ran. Sure enough, it was lying right on top. Sophia climbed up and grabbed it, bringing it to her chest for a big hug. She felt so relieved; she thought it was gone forever.

She played with her cat and made a new friend.

Her name was Ella.

They played all day.

At this point, their friends from school were long gone, and it was getting a bit chilly. They decided it was time to head home. Together, they walked in the direction of their homes; they were next-door neighbors. When they arrived, Sophia ran inside the house to ask her mom if she could play at Ella's with her stuffed cat. Her mom said yes, and she ran back out of the door. Ella was still waiting for her. They walked over to Ella's house and played with Sophia's stuffed cat and Ella's stuffed cat for the rest of the day.

THE END

THE END

And it took her way longer to write hers. 🤣
