I Put a Spell on You

When I was a kid, I didn't have a lot of friends. And even if I did, my mom was so strict that she wouldn't let me hang out with them. I ended up spending a ton of time in my room, just reading, writing, and listening to music. Those things were a huge part of my life back then.

I'm really into reading fiction, especially fantasy. I've tried out some sci-fi and mystery, but fantasy is definitely my thing. Most fantasy books are loaded with magic, and you see magic all over movies and shows too. It's everywhere! I'm sure you've imagined having a superpower at some point. No need to hide it—you know you love pretending to be a superhero saving the world. It kind of gives you a little boost, right?

I've often daydreamed about how cool it would be to have magic or superpowers. If I had to pick just one, it would be a tough call. Seriously, with all the stuff I've read and watched, there are so many amazing powers out there. How do you even choose just one? Like I've mentioned, I'm not the biggest TV fan, but I do watch it sometimes. I really dig the Guardians of the Galaxy series, probably because I love space, and it's set in space a lot. I'm also a big fan of the X-Men series. And don't even get me started on Harry Potter—that series will always be my favorite. Someday, I'll get a Harry Potter half-sleeve tattoo, if I ever have the extra cash, which might be never. As for TV shows, I really enjoyed watching Heroes.

I've got a few powers on my wishlist that I'd really love to have if I had to choose just one.

  • Mystique's got some awesome powers. If you haven't seen X-Men, you might be a bit out of the loop. She's a shapeshifter who can transform into anyone, even copying their fingerprints and DNA. Just imagine all the crazy stuff you could pull off with that skill! I could definitely stir things up. Picture pretending to be the president and hopping on TV to say something nice. Not sure if that would actually work, though. People might catch on that something's fishy. I could totally be anyone and spread kindness and love all over social media. People wouldn't even know what hit them! There are endless possibilities!

  • Flying. Can you picture what it would be like to fly? To really be free! Birds have been around since the time of dinosaurs because they can fly and get away from things. They can go wherever they feel like. That level of freedom is something my little brain can hardly even comprehend.

  • Teleportation would be awesome! I love traveling, so being able to teleport would be perfect. No more long car rides or terrible flights. It would save so much time, which means I could enjoy way more of the world. Seriously!!! If I could teleport, I could see every part of the world. That would be a dream come true.

  • Mind Reading. I've gone back and forth on this idea. I’ve read the Sookie Stackhouse series series, and I get why this ability might not always be great. But honestly, I’d love to have it. Imagine diving into the thoughts of some of the smartest people out there—that would be mind-blowing! Plus, being able to hear the real truth to deliver justice would be incredible. Sure, there’d be stuff I’d rather not know, but the things I’d want to know totally outweigh that.

  • Telekinesis. I've always thought it would be amazing to be like Matilda. She's absolutely brilliant and has some seriously cool superpowers. The fun stuff she did with her powers, and all for good! She turned a nightmare of a school into a paradise. Imagine what I could do with powers like that. Just about a week ago, at my daughter's gymnastics class, a two-year-old got locked in a car with the keys inside. Don't ask me how it happened—I still haven't figured it out, and it seemed rude to ask. Okay, here's something a bit embarrassing: I tried to open that lock with all the mental strength I could muster. Sadly, it didn't work. But hey, it was worth a shot!

These are the ones I keep going back and forth on. If you could have any superpower, which one would you pick and why? If you could choose from any of those five, which one would you pick and why? This should be fun!
