Cruising the Caribbean 2025

We enjoy traveling somewhere for Spring Break. This year, we chose to go on a cruise. It was my fifth cruise, my daughter's second, and my husband's first. I was uncertain if my husband would ever agree to go on a cruise, as he was always reluctant due to his dislike of crowds and enclosed spaces. One of the great aspects of cruises is the constant activity and the vast size of the ships. I've even found empty spots on the ship that weren't my room. He ended up having a good time, and I noticed him looking up cruises last week.

We went to four different places: Cozumel Mexico, Belize, Roatan Honduras, and Costa Maya, Mexico

Exploring Cozumel, Mexico - Cenote

As with any cruise, there are one or more days at sea on the way to the exciting destinations and back home. These days at sea can be quite enjoyable, offering a unique opportunity to relax, unwind, and take advantage of the various amenities and activities available on board. We certainly enjoyed those days, indulging in leisurely meals, participating in onboard entertainment, and soaking up the sun on the deck. However, I want to focus on the ports we visited, as they provided some of the most memorable experiences of the entire trip.

This particular excursion was my absolute favorite, as it opened my eyes to the rich history and vibrant culture of the Mayan civilization. One of the most fascinating aspects of this journey was my discovery of cenotes—natural sinkholes filled with crystal-clear water that are unique to the Yucatán Peninsula. These cenotes were not only breathtakingly beautiful, but they also hold significant cultural and historical importance to the Mayan people.

During our visit, I had the incredible opportunity to learn about the formation of these cenotes, which are created when limestone bedrock collapses, revealing the groundwater below. The Mayans revered these natural wonders, often using them for ceremonial purposes and as sources of fresh water. As I listened to our knowledgeable guide share stories of the ancient rituals and practices associated with cenotes, I felt a deep connection to the land and its history.

The highlight of the excursion was undoubtedly the chance to swim in the stunning waters of the cenote. The moment I stepped into the cool, refreshing water, I was enveloped by a sense of tranquility and awe. The vibrant blue hues of the water, combined with the surrounding lush vegetation and the sunlight filtering through the trees, created an almost magical atmosphere. Swimming in such a pristine natural setting was a surreal experience, allowing me to appreciate the beauty of the environment while reflecting on the cultural significance of the site.

In addition to swimming, I also had the opportunity to explore the area surrounding the cenote. I wandered along well-maintained paths that led to various viewpoints, each offering a different perspective of the cenote's beauty. The lush flora and fauna were a feast for the eyes, with vibrant flowers and unique plants adding to the overall experience. I even spotted some local wildlife, which further enhanced my appreciation for the natural ecosystem.

Overall, this excursion not only allowed me to immerse myself in the stunning beauty of the cenotes but also provided a deeper understanding of Mayan culture and history. The combination of physical activity, cultural enrichment, and breathtaking scenery made this experience truly unforgettable, and it will remain a cherished memory for years to come.

Afterwards they brought us back to the port where we enjoyed a wonderful lunch and this show.

Port of Roatan
Port of Roatan

Exploring Roatan, Honduras

While in Roatan, Honduras, I had the incredible opportunity to immerse myself in the vibrant wildlife and thrilling adventures that the island has to offer. During my stay, I encountered a fascinating sloth, known for its slow movements and gentle demeanor, which provided a unique glimpse into the lush ecosystems of Central America. These adorable creatures are often found hanging lazily from tree branches, and seeing one up close was a memorable highlight of my trip.

In addition to the sloth, I also had the chance to observe a brilliantly colored parrot. The parrot, with its vibrant feathers and playful personality, added a splash of color to my experience. Its ability to mimic sounds and engage with visitors was truly entertaining, and I found myself captivated by its charm. Interacting with these animals not only enriched my understanding of the local wildlife but also deepened my appreciation for the biodiversity that exists in this tropical paradise.

One of the most exhilarating parts of my adventure was the chance to interact with a playful monkey. The monkey's curious nature and agile movements made for an unforgettable encounter. As it swung from person to person, it showcased its remarkable agility and intelligence, reminding me of the fascinating behaviors of primates in their natural habitat. This interaction was not only fun but also educational, as I learned about the importance of conservation efforts to protect these incredible animals and their environments.

Another highlight of my time in Roatan was the exhilarating experience of zip lining through the treetops. I had the opportunity to traverse a total of 12 zip lines, each offering a unique perspective of the stunning landscape below. Some of the zip lines were impressively long, stretching across vast expanses and providing breathtaking views of the lush jungle and sparkling waters surrounding the island. While I initially felt a surge of fear and adrenaline as I prepared to launch myself off the platform, I ultimately found the experience to be thrilling and liberating.

The sensation of soaring through the air, with the wind rushing past me, was both exhilarating and terrifying. Each zip line presented its own challenges, and I felt my heart race as I took the leap into the unknown. Despite my fear, I managed to conquer my apprehensions and complete the course, which left me with a profound sense of accomplishment and joy. The thrill of zip lining not only tested my limits but also allowed me to connect with the stunning natural beauty of Roatan in a way that was truly unforgettable.

Overall, my experiences in Roatan, from interacting with wildlife to the adrenaline-pumping adventure of zip lining, created memories that I will cherish for a lifetime. The combination of these encounters enriched my understanding of the island's rich biodiversity and provided a perfect blend of adventure and education.
